Cabell-Huntington Health Department Welcomes new Physician Director, Michael E. Kilkenny, MD, MS
HUNTINGTON, WV- The Cabell-Huntington Health Department is proud to announce and welcome Dr. Michael E. Kilkenny as the new Physician Director. Dr. Kilkenny has been a local family practitioner in the area for over 30 years. He is currently certified with the American Board of Family Practice. Prior to becoming Physician Director, Dr. Kilkenny practiced at the St. Mary’s Family Care Center in Ceredo, WV. “I’m excited about the opportunity to work in this position to improve the health and well-being of the people in Huntington and Cabell County”.
Dr. Kilkenny earned his Medical Degree from Marshall University School of Medicine. His residency focused on Family and Community Health. Dr. Kilkenny also holds a Master’s Degree in Community Health. Dr. Kilkenny has previously held academic appointments with both West Virginia University and Marshall University School of Medicines as a Clinical Professor.
Over the years, Dr. Kilkenny’s outstanding work has been recognized and awarded for his dedication and passion. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Kilkenny received the W. Edwin Black Award for outstanding dedication to rural primary care. During his residency, he received the Outstanding Resident Teacher award two times by Marshall University School of Medicine. The Bureau of Primary Healthcare Quality Center honored Dr. Kilkenny with an Outstanding Achievement Award in 2000.
He previously has worked as the Medical Director of Valley Health Systems, Inc, served as the Medical Director of Hospice of Huntington in Wayne County and served as the part-time Medical Director for the Coalfield Health Center in Chapmanville, WV. Dr. Kilkenny has been an active member with the Cabell County Medical Society, previously serving several executive appointments including President. He has also been in private practice.
Dr. Kilkenny has been a member of the West Virginia State Medicaid Fund Advisory Council, served as Board of Directors member for the Clinical Regional Advisory Networks holding two executive positions and served the National Health Service Corporation’s Scholarship Service.
