The 2020 Census can make a real impact for small towns and rural communities, from schools, to health care, to emergency management and more. Census response representatives will set up a mobile questionnaire assistance station in front of the Huntington Area CVB on Saturday, October 10 from 10 to 2pm. Marshall Announces Complete Virtual Homecoming Schedule
Homecoming 2020 will take place as scheduled during the week of October 19-24 culminating with the Thundering Herd taking on the FAU Owls in the annual Homecoming game.

This year’s Homecoming will look a little different than what you are used to. We are pleased to present “Herd @ Home,” an all-virtual, completely online Homecoming experience. While we are disappointed that we will not be able to meet in-person this year, we are excited to bring you a fresh new take on Homecoming with a week of activities for you to participate.

From games to webinars, interviews with campus leaders, tours of new and historic venues, virtual events such as a 5K and parade, we plan to bring you the best virtual content to make your time away from campus enjoyable.

Carter Seaton Book Launch
On Saturday, October 10 from noon until 3pm, Carter Taylor Seaton will hold an outside dual book launch and signing at Pullman Square. The event will closely follow COVID-19 guidelines with masks required, hand sanitizer available, and social distancing observed.

Her novel, The Other Morgans, follows AJ Porter as she is suddenly challenged to make a life-altering decision by the terms of an unexpected inheritance. We Were Legends In Our Own Minds, co-written with her husband, Richard Cobb, is a memoir in essays detailing his twenty-five-year career managing civic arenas where all the rock acts of the 1970s and 80s came to perform. It’s a true backstage pass to the rock and roll era.

5th Annual Farm to Table Dinner
The Wild Ramp will tailor this year’s Annual Farm to Table Dinner to create a safe and socially distanced fundraiser. In lieu of the global pandemic, The Wild Ramp’s Harvest Kitchen will be offering a To Go menu that will highlight their farmers and producers. The event will take place at 555 14th Street West in Huntington, WV 25704 on Saturday, October 10th, 2020 from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM and feature a seasonal and locally sourced menu.

The Wild Ramp is proud to bring the Farm to Table Dinner Fundraiser to Huntington, WV for the fifth year in a row. The Farm to Table Dinner Menu will be to go only to encourage social distancing and to keep staff and customers safe from COVID-19. Orders can be made up to 48 hours in advance for cold takeout. Hot to go orders will be taken the day of the event. The event will last from 8:00AM – 3:00 PM or while supplies last.

The menu will feature cider roast pork with an apple thyme reduction, local winter squash salad with a maple vinaigrette, an apple and turnip slaw, and a wild ramp cornbread made with locally harvested ramps from the spring. The vegetarian option will be a mushroom lasagna. The vegan option will be a butternut squash soup with roasted pumpkin seeds and apple slaw. Desserts and hot beverages will also be available for purchase.

Alchemy Theatre Drive-In Cabaret

Outdoor Dining Continues on Portion of 9th Street on Weekends
The City of Huntington will continue to close the southbound lane of 9th Street between 3rd and 4th avenues on Fridays and Saturdays so restaurants in that area can offer outdoor dining.

The street closure, which was unanimously supported by the five restaurants in the designated area, will allow the restaurants to serve their customers at tables set up in the southbound lane of 9th Street from 5 to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The southbound lane of 9th Street will close to vehicular traffic beginning at 3 p.m. and reopen by midnight on these days.

Corn Maze at Cooper Family Farms
The 8-acre corn maze at Cooper Family Farms is open at 1302 W. Main St., with a new theme for 2020, “Lost in Liberty.”

From the farm’s website: “This year has been a year of changes. Our everyday lives have been altered and sometimes put on hold. The Maze though is going to be open. Though we, as most every other business, will need to have some adaptations. We are still going to be there to provide you and your family a safe, quality retreat from all the craziness that this world is experiencing. We will need to practice social distancing and most of our hands on games are not going to be in use, the MAZE itself is still going to be accessible. Also, mask must be worn to gain access to our facility and must be worn while in all areas.”

Additionally, there will be no public shuttle from the parking lot to the maze, but arrangements can be made to transport supplies or pumpkins purchased from the patch. The property will still be available for private parties and fire-pit use.

Admission is free for ages 3 and under, and $8 for ages 4 and up. Admission to the “Field of Screams” Haunted Maze is $12. The maze is open 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The final day of the maze this year is Nov. 1.

Bertoia Exhibit at HMA to Celebrate Work of Artist Who Created Marshall University Memorial Fountain
To observe the 50th Anniversary this fall of the Marshall University plane crash, the Huntington Museum of Art will present an exhibition of work by Harry Bertoia, the artist who created the Marshall University Memorial Fountain.

Titled Rising, Renewing, Reaching: Harry Bertoia and the Marshall University Memorial Fountain, this exhibition is Presented by the Polan Family in Memory of Dorothy and Lake Polan, Jr. This exhibition will be on view in HMA’s Switzer Gallery from Sept. 19 through Jan. 3, 2021. An exhibit of Marshall University Memorial Fountain photographs by David Pittenger will be on view in HMA’s Virginia Van Zandt Great Hall during the run of the Bertoia exhibition.

Celia Bertoia is tentatively scheduled to present The Dr. Lawrence B. and Shirley Gang Memorial Lecture at HMA on Nov. 13, 2020, from 5 to 7 p.m. (Please follow HMA social media platforms for updates on this event, which may be presented virtually.)

Harry Bertoia’s Memorial Fountain on the Marshall University campus has become a powerful symbol of the university itself, serving as a centerpiece for the school grounds and a vigilant reminder of the terrible airline tragedy that occurred on November 14, 1970, when 75 players, coaches and supporters of the football team perished.

Afterward, check out the pumpkin store where you’ll find over 50 varieties of pumpkins as well as mums, fall decor, and other treats. Come early in the season before the sunflowers fade!

It costs $8 to ride a shuttle to the patch, but the price of admission includes both the ride and one orange pumpkin. A farm store is also located on the property and does not require paid admission.

Huntington Museum of Art Announces Re-Opening:

The Huntington Museum of Art is planning to reopen to the public on July 7, 2020. It is the goal of the Museum’s reopening plan to keep staff members and visitors as safe as possible, which, in turn, helps our community.

In addition, to make sure we are not having too many visitors inside the Museum at the same time, we will be using the online ticketing system Eventbrite. This is a FREE service, and visitors can easily acquire tickets using their smartphone, tablet or home computer. For anyone who may need assistance with this process, they can also call the Museum directly for help booking their tickets.

Blenko WV Day Event postponed:

The Coronavirus pandemic took approximately two months of production away from us at Blenko Glass. A significant part of that loss was the production of the annual WV Birthday piece. Therefore, this event, originally scheduled for Saturday, June 20 will be postponed. We know that many of our customers come from far and wide to purchase a West Virginia Day piece so we are currently exploring ideas for a belated birthday celebration!

To celebrate this year, we are proposing the Birthday piece be offered after Labor Day – sometime in September. Exact details are uncertain at this time but distribution will not be the typical event with campers and a parking lot full of customers. We wish to play it safe and avoid large gatherings of people, many of whom will be visiting from out of state.
